GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
The general breed characteristics & recognised colour varieties detailed after the Standard Weights
apply equally to large and bantam Faverolles.

Serious defect: Any bird of an inappropriate size or weight may be passed.

 

TYPE

MALE:

Carriage:

Active and alert

Body shape:

Body thick, deep and cloddy. Sides deep.

Back:

Fairly long, flat and square i.e., very broad across shoulders and saddle.

Breast:

Broad, keel bone very deep and well forward, in front but not too rounded.

Tail:

Moderately long, somewhat upright and with broad feathers.

Wings:

Small, prominent in front, carried closely tucked.

Serious defect: Squirrel tail or flowing tail either low or level with the back.

 

FEMALE:

Allowing for natural sexual differences, the general characteristics are similar to the male with the following exceptions:-

Type:

Body & keel bone longer & deeper.

Back:

Longer in proportion.

Tail:

Carried midway between upright and drooping.

Serious defect (in either sex): Narrowness, hollow breast, crooked back or wry tail.

 
 
 

TABLE QUALITIES

Handling qualities: The breast & thighs to be well fleshed with meat.

 

Disqualification: Crooked breastbone.

 
 
 

CONDITION

General condition: Plumage quality, cleanliness, health & fitness of the bird to be good.

 

Serious defect: (re.live poultry exhibits.) Immaturity, significant or severe cases of inactivity, injury, illness, lameness, scaly leg, heavy infestations of lice or mites, heavily soiled or heavily moulting birds. Any bodily deformity.

 
 

 

HEAD & NECK

Head: Broad, flat & short. Free from crest.

Eyes: Prominent.

Beak: Short, stout.

Male - Comb: Single, medium size, upright with four to six serration's. Smooth and free from coarseness or any side work.

Female - Comb: Much smaller and neater.

Ear lobes & Wattles: Small & of fine texture, both these with the face, are partly concealed by the muffling. Birds vision should not be obscured.

Face: Muffled.

Muffling full, wide, short & solid.

Male - Neck: Short & thick, especially near the body, which it should be well let into.

Female - Neck: Straighter than the males.

 

Defect: Side sprigs in comb or badly lopped comb.

Serious defect: Deformed beak, little beard or muffs.

Disqualification: Absence of muffling.

 
 
 

LEGS & FEET

Legs: Short & stout.

Thighs & shanks: Wide apart. Knees straight, shanks stocky, of medium length.

Formation of feet & toes: Toes five, the front three long, straight & well spread. The fourth quite divided from the fifth, should be functional, on the ground & well back, the fifth turned up the leg.

Foot feather: Shanks sparsely feathered to the outer toe.

 

Defect: Excessive foot feather.

Serious defect: Inkneed. Pronounced vulture hocks.

Disqualification: Other than five toes on each foot, featherless shanks & outer toes.

 
 
 

GENERAL COLOUR In all varieties

Comb, face, wattles & ears lobes red.

Skin colour: White

Beak colour: White/horn in buffs, cuckoos, ermines salmons & whites. Black in black and laced blues.

Legs & feet: White/horn in the buffs, cuckoos, ermines, salmons & whites. White/horn with dark markings or mottles in the cuckoos. Black in the blacks. Black or blue in the laced blue.

Eye colour: Orange to yellow, grey or hazel in the buffs, cuckoos, ermines, salmons & whites. Black or brown in blacks & blues.

 

Defect: Pale eyes a minor fault. Pure white in ear lobe.

Serious defect: Other than standard leg or skin colour in all colour varieties.

 

Salmon  Plumage

 
 

Male: Breast, thighs, underfluff, tail and shank feathering please note that where explanations black.
Wing bar black, primaries black. Secondaries white outer edge, black inner edge
and at tips. Hackles straw.In cockerels back, shoulders & wing bright cherry mahogany.
In older males a fringe of dark orange on the wing bows is permissible.
(Typical undercolour is grey in the upper part of the fluff, fading paler towards the
root.)
Defect : Straw colouring on wing bows, excessive thumb mark in neck hackle.
Serious defect: Extremely pale shoulders and wing bows of almost silver
duckwing colouration. Very dark striped hackles of almost partridge colouration.

Female: Beard and muffs creamy white. Breast, thighs and underfluff
cream. Remainder wheaten brown, head and neck striped with a darker shade of the
same colour but free from black. (Note: most feathers of the head & neck also
typically possess some cream lacing.) Wings similar to back but softer and lighter.
Primaries, secondaries and tail wheaten brown. (The usual colour of the inner edge
of the primaries, secondaries & tail is grey. Typical under- colour on top of the
body is grey in the upper part of the fluff fading towards the root. On the front
& underside the typical undercolour is mostly creamy white.)
Defect : Dark blotchy breast, white in wing feathers.
Serious defect : Extremely pale back colour with almost white wing bows.
